My Elastic Heart

ImageI have an elastic heart

A heart that’s not so smart

It gets easily filled up

Up and over the brim of her cup

That repeatedly ends up being pulled apart

Deflated is the Ego

It pulls you in and lets you go

Back and forth like a rubber band

Stretches out and springs back again

And like a rubber band

My heart’s wearing thin

Stop stretching me all out

And snapping me back again

Sad Woman

As I fear my heart may tear in two

With a broken rubber band

There’s not much you can do

But I’ll be damned this time if it’s up to you

You see this time I’m retracting

By MY very wise hand

And they’ll be no redacting

No matter how clever your hand

Morning Forest

I’m taking a stand

From you to stand apart

As I reclaim my fragile but intact

Elastic Heart.
